The morning meltdown map

Five flashpoints, one reroute each

Most school-morning meltdowns happen in the same five places. Knowing where they're coming lets you get ahead of them — instead of just reacting.

Wake-up
The groggy refusal
Sleep debt from the holidays hits hardest in week one.
RerouteWake 10 minutes earlier with light and quiet, not a countdown.
Breakfast
The food fight
Anxiety sits in the stomach before it shows anywhere else.
RerouteOffer, don't negotiate. Two options, same result either way.
Getting dressed
The uniform standoff
New fabric, new fit, and it's the first "have to" of the day.
RerouteLay it out the night before, in the order it goes on.
Shoes & bag
The last-minute stall
It's the final task before the transition — the hardest part.
RerouteOne fixed spot for shoes and bag. Same place, every day.
Out the door
The doorway meltdown
Leaving means separating — from home, from you.
RerouteA two-second goodbye ritual, said the same way every time.
The 14-day back to school reset

Two weeks to rebuild the routine, then hold it under pressure

Built on Sense, Act, Reroute — the same framework behind every Parent Survival programme, applied to the specific chaos of September.

Week one · Sense & Act

Rebuild the routine

  • Spot which of the five flashpoints is actually yours
  • Reset bedtime and wake time in small, sustainable steps
  • Build a visual morning order everyone can see, not just remember
  • One change at a time — not a full overhaul on day one
Week two · Reroute

Hold it when it's hard

  • What to do in the 90 seconds a meltdown is actually happening
  • Scripts for the standoffs — shoes, screens, "I'm not going"
  • Repairing after a bad morning without carrying it into the day
  • Handing the routine to your child, piece by piece

Questions

Before you start

What ages is this for?

The reset flexes across primary and secondary. Your check-in tailors the flashpoints, scripts, and tone to your child's age — a Reception starter and a Year 8 refusenik get different plans.

Is it really free?

The check-in and your 14-day reset are free, no card required. The Hub — ongoing support across mornings, bedtime, screens, and after-school behaviour — is £4.99/month if you want to keep going after September.

What if we're already three weeks into term?

Start anyway. The reset works whether you're heading off a meltdown before it starts or trying to break a pattern that's already set in.

Do I need to do this with my child, or on my own?

Week one is mostly you — noticing patterns and adjusting the routine. Week two brings your child in gradually, at whatever pace suits them.

Tomorrow morning could go differently.
